Our quick, no fuss guide to adding keywords to your website

The Easy, Quick, Beginners Keyword Insertion Checklist

Following on from our previous article called how to find keywords which explains what keywords are, it’s now time to discuss keyword insertion on your website.

What pages do I add keywords to?

First of all each page should have a unique keyword phrase that is specific to the content on that individual page. If two pages on your website are optimised for the same keywords then they will in effect be competing against each other.

The keyword insertion checklist

Now you have a unique keyword phrase for each page, this phrase needs to be integrated into the following areas on each page:

  • Page title
  • Meta description
  • H1
  • URL
  • Other headings e.g. h2
  • Within page content
  • In image descriptions

More details on these can be found here as to where you can find these items in your website.

What do I need to avoid when inserting keywords in to the page?

Keyword stuffing! This is when your page has an unnatural number of mentions of your keyword – Google will recognise this and could penalise you. The optimum keyword density should ideally be between 1 – 3% of the content within your page.

Any other keyword insertion tips?

Try to integrate the keywords naturally into your content, else once the user reaches your page via a search engine, they will immediately leave and defeat the point of attracting visitors.

Also, try to incorporate similar or associated words into your content as people do Google variations on a topic, and you will have an increased likelihood to rank for the lesser used phrases.
